Dr. Ross Porter always knew in his heart that he wanted to help people and make a difference for the good in the world.
Teacher, author, executive, consultant, and spiritual director, Dr. Ross Porter has long been dedicated to helping people do good, and be good, for the Good. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and his graduate degrees—a M.Div. (Theology) and a Ph.D.(Clinical Psychology)—from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has counseled thousands of individuals, couples, and families, written six books (available via the Resources link on this website), and taught at the high school, college, and graduate levels.
Dr. Porter is the Founder and Executive Director of Stillpoint Family Resources (www.stillpointfamilyresources.org), a non-profit organization that provides healing and hope to individuals and families in need through counseling and educating.
Dr. Ross Porter originally created Stillpoint Resources in 1998, because he wanted to provide an organization that understood the unique blessings and challenges of life with a special needs child, and could support these families in strategic ways. The inspiration for Stillpoint Family Resources is Ross and his wife’s first child John Michael, born with Down syndrome. The organization has since expanded its focus to help all individuals, couples and families facing challenges—be they medical, financial, or social. There is a particular focus on the under served, as roughly 70% of services are offered at a sliding scale rate.
Dr. Porter is also a sought after speaker and retreat director, having spoken at conferences, churches, schools, and retreat centers both nationally and internationally. His areas of expertise are the integration of psychology and spirituality, the family, teens, and virtue. Dr. Porter writes blogs and articles that inspire and encourage people to be and do their best— how to practice habits that lead to true and lasting happiness— from a practical standpoint. To do this, Dr. Ross Porter created VirtueYOU, an engaging, practical and empowering program of transformation for adults, couples, parents, families and teens. More on this program can be found at www.stillpointfamilyresources.org.
